Tooth Extractions West Hollywood
At Me Spa Dental, we understand that no one wants to lose a tooth. Our team does everything possible to save the natural tooth in every case. However, when an extraction is necessary for the overall health of the smile, we are able to provide stress-free tooth extraction services as well as restoration options.
When Tooth Extraction Becomes Necessary
While no one wants to lose a tooth, there are certain circumstances where tooth extraction may be the best option for your health. No two patients are exactly the same but some of the most common reasons why we must resort to extraction include:
- Severe tooth decay – When a tooth becomes irreparably damaged by decay, the only option left is to extract it before the infection can spread to other teeth.
- Severe gum disease – If an infection has already spread into your roots and gum tissue, extraction can slow the advance of the disease.
- Impacted teeth – Impaction can lead to infection and overcrowding, forcing your teeth out of their natural position.
No matter what the reason for your tooth extraction, you can be sure that you will be in good hands at Me Spa Dental.
The Tooth Extraction Process
The first step in any tooth extraction procedure is to numb the area around the tooth. This is done with a local anesthetic and ensures that you won’t feel a thing during the extraction.
Once the area is numb, we will gently rock the tooth back and forth until it is loose enough to be removed. In some cases, the tooth may need to be reduced into smaller pieces before it can be removed.
After the tooth has been removed, we will apply pressure to the area to stop the bleeding. A gauze pad will be placed over the area and you will need to bite down on it to keep the pressure applied. In most cases, the entire procedure can be completed in less than an hour.
Recovery After Tooth Extraction
The recovery process after a tooth extraction is relatively quick and straightforward. You will likely experience some soreness and swelling in the days following the procedure but this can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
It is important to avoid using a straw, smoking, or drinking hot beverages as these can all cause the blood clot in the extraction site to become dislodged. You should also avoid eating hard or crunchy foods as this can cause the extraction site to become irritated. Instead, consume soft foods for the first few days after your procedure.
