When are Dental Crowns Necessary?

Dental crowns are a type of artificial cap used to cover a tooth and restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often necessary when a tooth is:

Dental Crown Application Procedure

Once it is determined that a crown is the proper treatment plan to restore the tooth, you will need to schedule an appointment to have the crown placed. During this appointment, the damaged tooth will be prepared for the crown. This usually involves removing any decay and shaping the tooth so that the crown can fit snugly. Once the tooth is prepared, the crown will be placed on top and cemented into place.

During cementation, the crown will cover the entire area around your tooth, extending down into the gumline. This will prevent the underlying tooth material from decaying any further. 

Post-Procedure Aftercare

It’s normal to experience some sensitivity after getting a dental crown. However, this should subside within a few days. Be sure to brush and floss regularly and avoid chewing on hard foods so that your crown lasts for many years to come.
